Alerts for: Iles-de-la-Madeleine

10:26 PM ADT Tuesday 20 March 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Wintery weather expected on Thursday and Thursday night...

A low pressure system will develop south of Long Island Wednesday morning then approach the Maritimes from the southwest Wednesday night and track across eastern Nova Scotia on Thursday. Snow will develop over the islands early Thursday morning then likely mix with or change to ice pellets during the day Thursday with a risk of freezing rain. Mixed precipitation is likely to linger over the islands until early Friday morning. At this time total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres is possible before the system finally departs on Friday.

As this system is in the early stages of development it is possible this scenario could change as there is still some uncertainty in the timing, amounts and details of the precipitation from this system as it moves into our region. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as this system and its impacts become better defined as warnings may be required.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports using #meteoqc.
