Statements

10:27 AM AST Tuesday 12 December 2017
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Eagle River

Snow, rain and strong winds expected Wednesday and Thursday.

A low pressure system developing near the Great Lakes will intensify as it moves across New England tonight and Wednesday before moving into western Labrador on Thursday. The low is then forecast to move out to sea late in the week.

Snow and strong easterly winds will develop over western Labrador Wednesday morning and spread to the remainder of the Big Land by afternoon. The snow will become heavy at times during the day with potential for significant amounts. Also, this fresh snow will combine with the strong winds to reduce visibilities in blowing snow, especially over exposed areas.

Over central Labrador and much of the coast, the snow will change through freezing precipitation to rain Wednesday night.

The precipitation is expected to ease to flurries on Thursday as the winds will shift to strong southwesterlies.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weathernlwo.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx.
