U.S. Smoke Forecast Disscussion

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0032Z January 17, 2018

SMOKE:
Southeastern CONUS...
A few fires throughout Florida and Georgia were observed emitting smoke
this afternoon. Many of these observed smoke plumes across the Florida
peninsula are drifting off to the southwest, while those across Georgia
and the Florida panhandle are drifting to the north or northeast ahead
of a frontal passage. Of note is that, with the volume of fires across
Georgia and the presence of high cirrus cloud cover, there is likely
more smoke than analyzed. However, the high cloud cover obfuscates much
of any existing smoke below.

Red River Valley/Ozarks...
A couple of smoke plumes from northern Texas into Southern Missouri
were seen emitting smoke. These smoke plumes were moving off to the
south-southeast.

Southwestern Wisconsin...
A couple of fires in southwestern Wisconsin were giving off smoke this
afternoon, which was observed moving to the south-southwest.

The Black Hills...
A couple of intense fires were observed emitting smoke across western
South Dakota and extreme northeastern Wyoming. The smoke from the eastern
side of the Black Hills was moving off toward the east-northeast, while
the smoke from the western side of the Black Hills was moving off toward
the west.
