Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
339 AM PDT Tue Oct 17 2017

.SYNOPSIS...
Dry weather thru mid-week. Rain chances along with high mountain
snow and cooler temperatures late in the week followed by a
warming trend this weekend.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Varying amounts of high cloudiness moving across NorCal with
westerly flow across the region. Temperatures are up a bit
compared to 24 hours ago and winds are generally light.

Dry weather continues the next couple of days with mild days and
cool nights. Periods of high clouds will be possible as the weak
wave moves through today, and more high cloudiness is likely the
next couple of days as moisture spreads northward from the
subtropical low pressure system offshore.

Low pressure system diving southeast from the Aleutians is
forecast to deepen a trough along the West Coast Thursday into
Friday bringing cooler and breezier conditions. Models continue
to trend drier and further north with QPF with much of it
occurring along the cold front as it moves south Thursday night
and early Friday. Amounts vary from 1/4 to 1/2 inch over the
mountains to a few hundredths of an inch around Sacramento to less
than 1/4 inch near Redding. Higher mountain elevations may see a
few inches of snow accumulation.

&&

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Saturday THROUGH Tuesday)
The upper trough pushes east and weakens Friday night into
Saturday morning making way for drier and warmer weather over the
weekend. Daytime highs in the Valley will warm into the upper 70s
and low 80s by Sunday. For the foothills and mountains, Sunday
highs will rise to the 60s to mid 70s. Dry weather with additional
warming for the beginning of next week. JBB

&&

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions with light winds. Valley winds at TAF sites will
be less than 10 kts. Winds over higher terrain will be light with
a diurnal pattern.

&&

.STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...None.
