Alerts for: Churchill Falls and vicinity

3:44 PM AST Wednesday 13 December 2017
Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Churchill Falls and vicinity
  • Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Snow, at times heavy, and strong winds will continue to give reduced visibilities in blowing snow.

Snow and blowing snow will continue this evening in central Labrador, into overnight in the west, and into Thursday in the north. Snow and blowing snow are expected to taper off by early Thursday morning in the west and Hopedale and Vicinity but are likely to persist throughout the day in Nain and Vicinity.

Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm are expected by early Thursday morning for most areas. However, heavy snow is expected to continue for Nain on Thursday with snowfall totals near 50 cm possible.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports using #NLwx.
