Alerts for: Channel-Port aux Basques - Burgeo

4:13 PM NDT Tuesday 20 March 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Burgeo - Ramea

Messy weather expected for the early days of spring.

A deep low pressure system is forecast to approach Nova Scotia early Thursday morning then continue northeastward and cross central Newfoundland on Friday.

This storm is expected to continue the trend we have seen with the majority of storms this winter by bringing a variety of precipitation types to most areas. Snow is expected late Thursday and Thursday night over northern Newfoundland, and may require a warning. Meanwhile, a combination of snow, freezing rain, and rain can be expected elsewhere across the Island as temperatures eventually rise above zero.

Some areas of the West Coast of Newfoundland prone to downslope east or southeasterly winds, including Wreckhouse and Bonne Bay, can expect strong winds on Thursday, with warnings likely required.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports using #NLwx.
