Alerts for: Saint John and County

Statements

3:24 AM AST Monday 22 January 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Saint John and County

A low pressure system will approach from the Great Lakes on Tuesday and then track across northern New Brunswick Tuesday night. Precipitation ahead of this system will begin as snow overnight Monday night and spread eastward to all counties by Tuesday morning. The snow will begin to change over to rain over the southern part of the province Tuesday morning and spread northward reaching northern areas by Tuesday evening. There will be an extended period of freezing rain developing over central and northern parts of the province during the changeover from snow to rain on Tuesday.

Early snowfall estimates for this storm are 20 to 30 centimetres for northern New Brunswick and 10 centimetres over southern parts of the province. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimetres are possible for southern New Brunswick with lesser amounts for northern parts of the province.

Due to the potential rainfall amounts expected with this storm a significant amount of melting of the existing snow on the ground will give enhanced runoff. This will potentially lead to some flooding in areas vulnerable to flooding.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weatheraspc.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm.
