Alerts for: Grand Lake and Queens County

4:37 AM ADT Tuesday 24 October 2017
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Grand Lake and Queens County

There is potential for a prolonged heavy rainfall event for New Brunswick beginning on Wednesday and lasting until late Thursday.

An elongated north-south oriented trough of low pressure will approach New Brunswick from the west later today and begin affecting the western half of the province with periods of rain on Wednesday. This trough is expected to move very slowly across the province Wednesday night and Thursday, and as it draws tropical moisture from the south it is expected to give an extended period of heavy rainfall to the province possibly lasting until later Thursday night.

While exact amounts and details are still uncertain as this system is still in the early development stages, current indications show a high likelihood that many parts of New Brunswick could receive in excess of 50 millimetres by Thursday evening, with potential for some areas to receive in excess of 100 millimetres.

The public is advised to monitor subsequent forecasts as rainfall warnings will likely be required for most parts of the province.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports using #NBStorm.
